Writings of Keiiti Aki

These writings of Keiiti Aki were previously published on “Mr.AkiHomepage” on the server of Prof. Yoshiaki Hisada’s laboratory at Kogakuin University. After that server went down, Prof. Hisada entrusted the materials to me in September 2026, and they are published here.

1. Seismic Prediction of Possibility (unfinished autobiography)

2. From modern seismology to earthquake prediction engineering (Parts 1 and 2)

According to the introduction of the article, it was composed from e-mail exchanges between Prof. Aki and the editor, Prof. Hisada; Prof. Aki wrote in English and Prof. Hisada translated the text into Japanese. Only the Japanese version is available.

About Seismic Prediction of Possibility

This is the unfinished autobiography of Keiiti Aki. According to the note in the English translation file, it was written in Japanese in 2004. The preface, Chapter 1 (“Possibility”), and Chapter 2 (“The first escape”) were written; Chapters 3–5 exist only as titles, and the afterword is a single sentence.

English translation. According to the note in the translation file, the translation was made by Prof. Hisada with the help of a translator, and covers the text through Chapter 2. The note says the translation may not be accurate, especially in the parts highlighted in yellow; these parts are marked on the translation page.

Japanese original. The preface and the first part of Chapter 1 are taken from the Japanese manuscript file provided by Prof. Hisada. Its content is the same as the page images on the former site that were taken from the memorial booklet of the gathering in memory of Prof. Aki (pages 1–13). The latter part of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 were transcribed from the page images on the former site (pages 15–23); according to the former site, these pages were provided by Prof. Aki’s wife, Valerie Aki, and his younger brother, Shuichi Aki. The memorial-booklet version ends Chapter 1 differently, and that ending is included as an appendix to the Japanese text.
